A First Look at the Tribes of Dreamtime

Dreamtime centers on the world and subcultures of an anthropomorphic bear race we call, the Ursines. Many might remember the first Ursine concept renders we shared during our Kickstarter campaigns last year. Working on Dreamtime has given us an opportunity to really explore the Ursine world in a way we might not have been able to for Echoes of Twilight; where Ursines are just one race among several. Our Ursine race was originally designed around Native American type tribal cultures which are highly unique and varied depending on where the tribes originate from, so we decided to bring that element into Ursine culture as well

    Druid Welcomes New Developers!

As we prepare Witanlore: Dreamtime for the big jump to a playable alpha state we've been recruiting far and wide across the web for the right talent to fill the remaining open seats on the Druid Gameworks development team!

The current state of the game and the media we've released have drawn a lot of attention to our open positions, so much that we had to hire a dedicated HR rep to manage the incoming and outgoing emails. We are so grateful to all who have applied we only wish we could hire you all (Apply again for Echoes of Twilight!) but so far these are the newest members of Druid Gameworks!

Druid Announces Major Shift in Project Development

When Druid Gameworks first began its foray into indie game development one of the most important things we had to decide was which engine would power our games. It wasn't a decision we could make lightly as there were a number of factors to consider such as could the engine handle the demands of a truly open RPG environment? Was the licensing fair and equitable? Could the engine grow with our company? We got our hands on several engines available to indie studios and gave each one a fair run through its paces, weighing the pros and cons of each. In the end, we decided the Havok Vision Engine was the best choice available at the time.

    Things have changed.

Video Dev Blog #1: Developing a Dream

DarkRider
  • Video Dev Blog #1: Developing a Dream

Development on Dreamtime is going very well and it's awesome to see the pieces starting to come together enough to actually look like a game. When the year began, Dreamtime was nothing more than a few notes in the Echoes of Twilight dev plan; an alternate start for Ursine players. Since then the story has grown and evolved to be worthy of a standalone title and we're very proud of the direction the project has taken. Considering how much of the year was spent designing the game on paper and learning a whole new engine, we're making development leaps at this point!

The dreamworld is a scene where players will travel during their vision quest to learn about their destiny from the Ursine's patron goddess, The Great Mother. The object of the scene is to navigate through the twisted, misty, world and reach the temple of the goddess in hopes of having an audience with the deity; who is said to be both beautiful and terrifying. For the first time, Dreamtime appears on film and we're really excited to show you how we turn concepts into game content every day, enjoy!

Development Notes:

The scene featured in this video dev log is still considered a work in progress even though it's getting very close to completion. We still have to fill in some of the details like an actual moon texture and light sources around the temple for example, but already the atmosphere and quiet beauty of the dreamworld is quite palpable. We'll be sharing additional video of the dreamworld in the future and you will be able to look back at this video and see how the details change the scene.

Learning a new engine and then taking what we've learned and applying it has been a challenge for our schedule at times. We're in a pretty good place now, the team has gotten the hang of the workflow in UE4, and it's all starting to come together, so we are still hopeful of a release this year. There are definitely some challenges ahead, especially financially in regards to freelance work, but we are encouraged by our progress and the continued support of Druid Fans everywhere!

How Can You Help?

Dreamtime's development is reaching a critical date in our timeline where work on the character models must begin soon or publishing will be delayed. Just like neurosurgery in medicine, character modeling is a specialized skill set in the world of 3D art and it can be almost impossible to find a character artist who is able to work on a profit share contract like the rest of the dev team. This means our character models need to be freelanced and we need additional funding to hire freelance artists.

The Druid Origin Guild is a funding program we created to allow our supporters to donate to our project budget while earning perks and rewards.

From the Guild page-

"Through your guild membership you get special ranking and avatars on our forum, Guildsman Title, Access to the Guildhall Forum for Early Updates & Exclusive Content Reveals, Earn Forum Badges, Get Early Access to our Playable Demos, Get Added to Our Beta Pool for a Chance to Beta Test, and Entry in Exclusive Contests. Pledge to the higher reward tiers to unlock even more perks, like participating in developer polls and digital swag!"

Please consider making a donation to our freelance artist fund so that development is not stalled and publishing is not delayed!
